
The WNA sponsors, hosts and organizes a variety of projects and events. There are literally dozens of ways you can make a difference in your community! Listed below are the events we are doing in 2008.
The Woodstock Community Center (WCC) is a community gathering place in the core of the Woodstock Village Center. For the past four years an Open House has been held to celebrate the center and to honor the partnership between the Friends of the Woodstock Community Center and Portland Parks & Recreation that keeps the center open. Join us in creating a unique experience and celebrating our neighborhood. You can contribute in the planning phase, or on the day of the event, with set up and clean up. Interested in helping? The Woodstock Neighborhood Association along with neighbors will be putting on an Easter Egg Hunt in Woodstock Park. Children are invited to hunt for eggs and pose with the Easter Bunny. You can contribute by helping to plan the event or help the Easter Bunny hide eggs in the park on the day of the event. In April, a Woodstock Neighborhood Spring Cleanup will be held in the parking lot of the Chinese Presbyterian Church on SE 49 th north of Woodstock. Dumpsters will be available for yard debris, furniture, appliances, tires, and scrap wood. You can contribute by helping on the day of the event. People are needed to help coordinate dumping, keep the lot clean and clean up afterwards. People who participate always say it is a fun social event. The Woodstock Neighborhood Association’s annual plant sale takes place on the Saturday before Mother’s Day at the Woodstock Community Center. You can contribute by dividing and potting up plants from your garden and bringing them to the Community Center the afternoon before the day of the sale. Friday afternoon and evening before the sale help is needed with pricing and organizing plants. On the day of the sale volunteers are needed to help set up, to be part of the sales team and to assist with cleanup. Money raised is used for community projects- recently for expenses related to keeping the Community Center open. In August we invite the entire neighborhood to join us for an afternoon of live music, free games and activities sponsored by local organizations, churches and groups and of course, delicious food served up by local restaurants. You can contribute to this event in many ways. Team leaders are needed to aid in organizing the picnic. People are needed to work the day of the picnic. This is an opportunity to volunteer at a fun event, get to meet all your neighbors while listening to music and eating ice cream. This fall we will be having another ghoulish bash. Kids of all ages are invited to play games, make crafts, and eat goodies. You can contribute to the event by helping in the planning phase, on the day of the event in coordinating games, handing out candy, helping little artists, or walking around in a funny costume.
